Use the app to play music files stored on your device, which we call local files.

Temporarily hiding a song is much better than removing it completely. Follow along with us to learn how to hide Spotify songs and unhide them if you change your mind. The ability to hide Spotify songs was rolled out to customers who use the company’s free mobile app on April 16, 2020. The feature requires a Spotify Premium subscription. The playlist for Premium Duo plan members. Note: This setting is only available on mobile devices, but applies across all devices. To remove explicit songs based on your music taste from Duo Mix, tap (Android) / (iPhone) in the top-right of your mix, then Remove your explicit songs. It suggests songs based on the playlist’s title and current track listings. Edit a playlist. To remove a song: Right-click the song you want to remove. Select Remove from this Playlist. To reorder songs: Click and hold a song. Drag and drop it to the position you want. Tip: For more ways to reorder, check out how to Sort and filter.

Note: Files or downloads from illegal sources are not permitted.

How To Delete Playlist From Spotify

On desktop, import your local files (with the ‘Desktop’ steps).
Add the files to a new playlist.
Log in on your mobile or tablet using the same WiFi as your desktop.
Go to Settings > Local Files and switch on Local audio files.
Note: You need to allow Spotify to find devices in the prompt that shows.
Download the playlist with your local files.

Didn’t work?

Make sure:

You’re logged in to the same account on both your desktop and mobile
Your devices are connected to the same WiFi network
The app is up-to-date on both devices
Your device is up-to-date
The Spotify app has access to your local network. Check in your iPhone/iPad settings under Spotify

For: Premium

Download the playlist with your local files.

Didn’t work?

Make sure:

You’re logged in to the same account on both your desktop and mobile
Your devices are connected to the same WiFi network
The app is up-to-date on both devices
Your device is up-to-date

Click , then Settings.
Scroll to Local Files and switch Show Local Files on.
Switch off any sources you don’t want.
Click ADD A SOURCE to select another folder.

Music from that folder is now in Local Files in the menu on the left.

Supported file types

Note: Some of your files may be protected in restricted formats. Install QuickTime on your computer to allow most of these tracks to be played on Spotify.

.mp3
.m4p (unless it contains video)
.mp4 (if QuickTime is installed on your computer)

The iTunes lossless format (M4A) isn’t supported.

If your file isn’t supported, we do our best to match it with songs from the Spotify catalog. The version we match with might differ from the original.

Delete music and music videos

To delete music from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, use the Apple Music app or the Settings app.
To delete music from your Mac or Android device, use the Apple Music app.

How to delete items in the Apple Music app

Open the Apple Music app and find the item that you want to delete. If you see the download button next to the item, the item is stored in the cloud, not on your device. When items are stored in the cloud, they don’t use any storage on your device.
On your Mac, hover your pointer over the item, then click the More options button that appears.
Or on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone, press and hold the item that you want to delete.
Tap or click Remove.
From the menu that appears, choose Remove or Remove Download. Or choose ‘Delete from Library’ to remove the item from all devices that you use with Apple Music.

To delete videos that you downloaded to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, use the Apple TV app or the Settings app.
To delete videos that you downloaded to your Mac, use the Apple TV app.

Delete items in the Apple TV app

Open the Apple TV app.
Tap or click Library.
To delete an item from your Mac, hover your pointer over the item, click the More options button , then click Remove Download.
To delete an item on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Downloaded, swipe left on the item, tap Delete, then Delete Download.

Delete movies or TV shows in Settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Open the Settings app.
Tap General, then tap iPhone Storage or iPad Storage.
Scroll to TV, tap it, then tap Review Apple TV Downloads. If you don’t see Review Apple TV Downloads, you don’t have anything downloaded to your device.
Find the movie, show, or episode that you want to delete, then swipe left on it and tap Delete.

If you can’t delete your movies or TV shows

If you see the download button next to the item, the item is stored in the cloud and isn’t using storage on your device. If you don’t want the item to appear in the cloud, hide the item.
